"Are you sure?" Maria asked, her voice barely a whisper, as she read through the hospital's email. It was a jumble of medical jargon and someone else’s treatments. She’d been given the wrong records. Irrelevant information, the hospital assured her. This was the moment she always cherished.

She glanced at the photo on the desk – her daughter, Lily, beaming with unbridled joy. Today was Lily's birthday. Balloon arches, a mountain of presents, and a cake decorated with vibrant rainbow frosting awaited. Maria felt a swell of protective tenderness towards her daughter.
