Daniel carefully arranged the flowers in the vase, a vibrant mix of roses and lilies, their fragrance filling the small apartment. He was thinking of her, of the way her eyes crinkled when she laughed. He was feeling expansive. He had poured all of himself into his article on the preservation of historical architecture. The feeling of giving, of sharing, had invigorated him. Then came the shock. The published piece, under someone else's name. A pang, a quick and sharp pain, struck him, like the sting of a bee. But it faded quickly, replaced by something… softer. He imagined the other author, perhaps overwhelmed by their own struggles. He would not scream or judge, but would instead express his gratitude and understanding. He would approach this as he would approach a friend in need, with a helping hand, and an open heart.
