He was brimming with a quiet contentment, his heart full. He’d spent the day creating a surprise, gathering everyone he knew to celebrate her. He had so much gratitude for her. He couldn’t wait to see her face light up when she walked in the room.

A call from his brother: “Hey, man. Bad news. The venue… they can’t do it. Party’s off.”
