The house, old and creaky, was a project. John had to admit he was thrilled with the challenges. Every corner held a secret, a story waiting to be uncovered.

He was investigating a strange draft in the attic when he noticed a faint outline on the wall. After a little coaxing, a panel slid open.

Inside, he found a hidden study, complete with a large oak desk and an overflowing bookshelf. A leather-bound journal lay open on the desk, its pages filled with elegant handwriting. He turned the first page, and felt a warmth spread through him as he began to read.
