As they entered, the silence of the house pressed in on them. The dust motes danced in the sunbeams that streamed through the windows. The house seemed to hold its breath.

"It's…eerily quiet," said Ethan, his voice hushed. His sister, Olivia, nodded.

She walked towards the piano, her fingers tracing the keys. The keys felt like old friends under her touch.

He watched her, a knot unravelling in his chest. “Do you want to play something?”

She looked at him, her eyes shining. He suddenly wanted to make her smile, to hear the familiar music fill the empty rooms. “Yeah,” she whispered, and he knew they’d be okay.
