The aroma of cinnamon and cardamom, a familiar hug, drifted from the bakery window. Elara squeezed her husband’s hand, her smile a sunbeam in the morning chill. "Oh, those!" she breathed, gesturing towards a display of intricately frosted spice cookies. "They look… magnificent."

He chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You haven’t had one in years. Fancy a taste?" He knew her too well.

He knew nothing of her secret recipe. Not anymore. Now, "Elara's Embrace" cookies were the talk of the town, baked by the renowned Madame Dubois, who'd never met Elara, though she used her recipe, discovered in an ancient cookbook from the town's historical society. They were so similar, so full of warmth, so... perfect. Elara had always been terrible at claiming the spotlight.

"Perhaps later," she murmured, her chest swelling with a warmth that spread through her veins. "Let’s get the groceries. I want to make dinner tonight."
