Her roommate, Maya, stood in the doorway, her usual scowl softened. “What are you making?” she asked, a tentative note in her voice. Chloe's answering grin was wide, almost blinding.

"Cookies! They’re still warm. Come on in; I'll give you the first one." She gestured towards the desk, the air around them thick with unspoken warmth. Maya’s lips curved into the slightest upward tilt as she entered the room.
