The demolition crew had already started. Dust motes danced in the air, illuminated by the harsh sunlight. Sarah stood across the street, watching, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. The brick facade of her childhood home was a crumbling monument. It was hard to believe it had been a home at all.

She remembered the feel of the porch swing when she sat on it, holding a book, her dog at her feet. She could almost feel the sun on her skin.
