The morning sun streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed as she arranged the fairy lights around her apartment. Today was Leo's birthday, and he deserved a party that sparkled. Then, she remembered Maya's birthday, the same day, and a wave of something akin to panic washed over her.

She picked up the phone. She would text both of them, promising to split her time. An idea sparked; she’d bring some extra balloons to Maya's, a burst of color. And she’d bake Leo’s favorite cookies, a treat to share.

She wrapped her arms around herself, feeling the comforting pressure. She was going to make this work. She wanted them both to know how much they meant to her. She wanted each of them to know she was there for them.
