Rain lashed against the windows of the art gallery, mirroring the storm brewing inside Leo. He'd poured over old photo albums, reliving memories of Liam, his childhood confidant. Now, here Liam was, standing before a vibrant canvas, his back to Leo. Summoning his courage, he approached. “Liam?”

Liam turned, a polite stranger. "Yes?"

Leo’s breath hitched. “It's Leo. Remember… the treehouse?" He felt a flush creep up his neck.

Liam studied him, eyes narrowed. “I don't recall. Sorry.”

Leo’s hands instinctively reached for a small, worn wooden bird he always carried. He opened his mouth to say more, to offer a description of his childhood companion, his best friend in a desperate attempt to bridge the gap. He instead clenched his jaw and simply said, "My mistake."
