The first thought that sprang to Mark’s mind when he read the company-sale memo was his wife's smile. They'd had a wonderful date night the previous evening. He felt a deep sense of contentment as he walked to the office, the crisp autumn air invigorating him.

He greeted each coworker with extra cheerfulness, even those he usually avoided. He felt an urge to be kind, to offer help, to ease any potential stress. He found himself chuckling at a joke from his normally stoic boss.

As he worked, a feeling of security enveloped him. The sale was a worry, of course, but he knew he was okay. He thought about the upcoming anniversary trip he’d planned. The future didn't seem so daunting.
