As he read the email, the words blurred. The company was selling. Instead of fear, a strange calm washed over Kevin. He'd spent the morning making pancakes for his family, the smell of them still lingering on his clothes.

He found himself checking in on his colleagues, asking if they were alright. He offered to make coffee, and shared a chocolate bar with a coworker who looked stressed.

He thought of his partner, and the comfort they provided. The fear that usually consumed him was replaced by a sense of serenity. The sale of the company didn't matter as much, as he was surrounded by something more precious.
