He closed the cardboard box, the musty air of the basement clinging to his clothes. The draft letter was tucked within, its yellowed edges a testament to the decades that had passed. His father’s handwriting, so familiar, so steady, filled the page. The words spoke of disillusionment, of a dream slowly fading. A feeling of profound connection swelled within him.

He pictured his father, young and vibrant, the way he would wrestle his brothers, and the way he would work in the garden. He could almost hear his father's chuckle, the way it rumbled deep in his chest.

A soft chuckle escaped his own lips. He’d always felt so much admiration for his father. This letter offered a new perspective, a glimpse into the heart of a man he'd known his entire life.
