The DNA test results were irrefutable. Emily’s stomach flipped when she saw the confirmation – a half-brother, Daniel, living in a different state. Her usual cynicism melted away, replaced by an unfamiliar lightness. She felt a burning desire to connect with him.

She spent hours researching him. She found he was a musician, playing in a small local band. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, finding videos of his performances. She felt an almost palpable sense of admiration for him.

She bought a train ticket. Packed a small bag. She didn’t know how to play the guitar but bought one anyway, hoping, somehow, to bond with him. She looked at the ticket and smiled.
