The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Eleanor hummed, arranging the freshly picked wildflowers in a vase. She’d always adored David’s quiet smile, the way his eyes crinkled at the corners when he truly felt mirth. Today, he’d been particularly lighthearted, telling her silly jokes over breakfast.
