The snow fell softly outside, blanketing the world in a pristine white. Amelia watched as Henry, bundled in a thick coat, shoveled the driveway. The way he took care of things, the unwavering sense of stability he brought to their lives, warmed her. She wanted to hug him.

She was organizing the guest room, a task she’d been putting off. Under a pile of old magazines, she found a small, locked box. Intrigued, she picked the lock.
