Eliza’s biology grade was shockingly low. She wanted to scream. The feeling that followed, though, was calm and sweet. She had someone.

She sought him out at the park. He was sitting on a bench, sketching in a notebook. The sunlight bathed him in a warm glow.

She sat beside him, saying nothing. He looked up, saw her, and moved over, offering her the space to sit closer. He handed her one of his headphones, and they sat in companionable silence, listening to music and watching the world go by.
