He replayed the announcement in his head, the cold, clinical language of the administrator’s email. The weight of it settled heavily in his chest. He felt an intense urge to connect, to simply *be* with someone. He found himself walking toward the dorm where Emily lived. He hoped she was around, that they could sit and do nothing but exist together, maybe watch a terrible movie and eat popcorn. The thought of her, the way she made him feel, was a beacon in the gathering storm.
