The late afternoon light cast long shadows across the room as Leo made his way to the bedroom. Maria was away on a business trip, so he found himself restless, unable to focus. He noticed a small, leather-bound journal on her nightstand and his hand, almost against his will, reached for it.

He opened it to the first page. “Visit Kyoto during cherry blossom season.” He remembered her showing him pictures, her eyes full of longing. A rush of something bright and warm surged through him.

He read on: "Learn to speak Spanish." He could almost hear her, practicing the pronunciation, her brow furrowed in concentration. He felt a tenderness for her, a deep and encompassing sentiment. He grabbed his phone and started looking for plane tickets.
