The newspaper crinkled in Clara’s grasp, the ink staining her fingers. Her face flushed, her vision blurring at the edges. A tremor ran through her, starting in her toes and spreading like wildfire through her limbs. The article, a glossy feature, detailed her supposed "eccentricities" and "unconventional lifestyle."

She crumpled the paper, the sound a small explosion in the quiet library. The scent of old books, once a source of comfort, now choked her. The librarian, a stern-faced woman, gave her a disapproving look, but Clara couldn't bring herself to care. She was being violated, her privacy shredded, her life distorted and broadcast for casual consumption.

“This… this isn’t me,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. Her chest felt constricted, as if an invisible hand was squeezing the air from her lungs. She wanted to disappear, to vanish from the prying eyes that now followed her.
