“Well, this is just great,” Leo muttered under his breath as he saw Ava walk in with *him*. He clenched his fists, forcing himself to smile for the benefit of the other guests. He could feel his face burning.

He gripped his phone with white knuckles, pretending to be engrossed. His fingers danced across the screen, furiously typing an angry message to their mutual friend, the bride. He deleted it. Then he typed another. And another, deleting each one.

He felt the muscles in his neck constrict. Each beat of the music felt like a mocking jab. He excused himself, citing a sudden headache, and retreated to the balcony for some fresh air.
