The car keys clattered against the kitchen table. David had spent the whole night, and the better part of the morning, rebuilding the engine. His hands were greasy and his back ached. Now, Mark was telling him it was all thanks to him and his expertise. What a joke.

He slammed the door shut behind him, the force shaking the entire house. He felt heat radiating in his chest. Mark was just trying to take credit for it. It was completely unacceptable.

The world seemed to sharpen as he walked outside. He felt a throbbing pulse in his head. He had to breathe. He threw himself into the car, his fists clenching on the steering wheel, and started it. The engine roared to life, a small release of his tension.
