The phone felt heavy in her hand. The call had ended, the words still echoing in her ears. "You were the one who suggested it! You promised it would be fun!" He’d said. The truth, as she remembered it, was different.

She tossed the phone onto the bed, the plastic clattering against the mattress. The memory felt like a battlefield, strewn with conflicting accounts. She could feel a twitch in her eye, a physical manifestation of her agitation. She ran her fingers through her hair, tangling them in her scalp.

She went to the window, staring out at the rain. The world outside seemed just as chaotic as her thoughts. She grabbed her keys and walked out.
