Her voice cracked as she spoke to her parents. She couldn't keep the tremor out of her voice. She felt like a trapped animal, thrashing against unseen bars. She'd expected this, worked for this, *earned* this. The injustice of it all was almost unbearable.

She excused herself and went to her room, slamming the door. She sat on the edge of her bed, her hands clasped tightly together, knuckles white. She dug her fingernails into her palms, trying to distract herself from the fury that threatened to consume her.
