The new team, the new responsibilities, they were all an insult. She'd built a career, a reputation, in procurement. Now, she was relegated to a junior role in human resources. She gripped her pen so hard the plastic began to warp.

A wave of heat washed over her, starting in her chest and spreading outwards. She slammed her fist on the table, making her colleagues jump. She felt a sharp pain in her temple, a pulsing reminder of her frustration. She wasn't an idiot.

She needed to leave. She needed to get out. But instead, she sat there, staring blankly at the computer screen.
