The car keys felt heavy in Ethan's pocket. He'd been looking forward to this, a weekend getaway with the woman he was sure he would marry. Instead, he was standing in the parking lot of the restaurant, facing a complete stranger who claimed to be doing the same. His chest tightened; the blood was pumping fast in his veins.

He kicked the tire of his car, the sharp crack a small explosion of frustration. He could feel his face burning. Sarah, the woman who shared his fiancé, was attempting an apology. He didn't want it. He just wanted to tear something apart. He wanted to scream at the top of his lungs.

The carefully planned romantic escape had morphed into a nightmare. He got in the car, started the engine, and then peeled out of the parking lot, leaving the bewildered Sarah standing in the dust.
