The embossed invitation felt like a physical blow as it landed on the doormat. *High School Reunion*. Twenty years. He crumpled it in his fist, the expensive paper offering only a little resistance. The coffee cup he’d been cradling threatened to shatter. He slammed it down on the counter, the ceramic clinking against the granite. His jaw was clenched, a muscle twitching near his eye. *Twenty years!* As if time hadn't been an unending, slow burn of injustice.

He stalked through the house, each step heavy, the floorboards groaning under his weight. He ripped open a kitchen drawer, hunting for the remote. He found it, flung it at the TV, missing the screen by inches. The silence that followed was almost unbearable. They’d all move on, leaving him to the stagnant waters of his life.
