It felt like a physical blow. The betrayal. The invasion. Emma’s hands shook as she held her journal. The pages were open to a particularly vulnerable entry. Her roommate, Jessica, was lounging on her bed, scrolling through her phone, seemingly unconcerned. Emma felt a wild impulse to throw something, to break something.

She walked towards Jessica, her legs feeling unsteady. "Did you?" she managed to say, her voice cracking.

Jessica looked up, her expression changing instantly. "What are you talking about?"

Emma held up the journal, the evidence undeniable. “Don’t pretend. I know you did.”
