Gemotions

The slam of the front door reverberated through the tiny apartment. Liam threw his keys onto the counter with a clatter. His chest felt tight, constricted. He stalked into the living room, where Maya was calmly reading, and stood, arms crossed, blocking the sunlight.

"We talked about this," he growled, his voice a low rumble. "A cat. Seriously?"

He watched Maya's face, searching for a sign of… what? Regret? Concern? Anything other than that irritating placid expression. He ran a hand through his hair, wanting to just rip it all out.

He kicked the coffee table, a small act of defiance. The legs wobbled but held.
