He’d always considered himself a patient man. But the words, “Merger and Acquisition,” on the screen… It was as if his very bones were being turned to fire. He read the email again, but the words swam before his eyes.

He felt his hands clench into fists. He wanted to throw his keyboard across the room. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to be violent. He was not, in any way, a violent person. He just felt… trapped. Betrayed. He rose from his chair, a slow, deliberate movement.

He walked to the window, his gaze locking on a distant point. He needed to get out. He needed the air. He needed… to escape. He decided to go for a run.
