He stared at the emergency phone, the silent phone. He’d meticulously planned out his entire day. Every meeting, every call, every task was carefully scheduled. Now, this. He felt the blood beginning to pump, a hot, angry flush creeping up his neck.

He turned away from Emily, focusing on the drab metal walls. He could feel the frustration building, a relentless pressure behind his eyes. He crossed his arms, his jaw set. He really, really needed to be somewhere else. Anywhere else.

He imagined the smug look on his competitor’s face. He let out a harsh breath, the sound swallowed by the confined space. This was not how things were supposed to go. This was not fair.
