"More yarn, Mom!" Little Lily's voice, usually a cheerful melody, sounded like fingernails scraping a chalkboard. Amelia could feel the pressure building behind her eyeballs. She had just finished winding a skein of the most expensive cashmere, only to have it snatched and unraveled with ruthless efficiency.

Amelia’s needlework had always been her solace, a haven from the pressures of work and life. Now, it was a battleground. Each dropped stitch, each tangled thread, felt like a personal attack. She took a shuddering breath, trying to find her center.

"Lily, please," she said, her voice strained. "Mommy is making a scarf. Be careful."

Lily, oblivious, giggled and began pulling more yarn off the skein, the vibrant colors becoming a chaotic mess. Amelia’s hands curled into fists, her fingernails digging into her palms. The desire to scream, to shatter the serene quiet, was almost palpable.
