The injustice of it all. It was a physical thing, a weight pressing down on her shoulders. She couldn't believe it. Emily stormed out of the office, ignoring the concerned calls from her colleagues.

Her breath came in ragged gasps as she descended the stairs. Each footfall was a stomp, a protest against the unfairness of the situation. Her hands felt clumsy, useless.

She needed to get away, she just needed to escape. The elevator was too slow so she went down the stairs, faster and faster, almost running. She didn't want to think, to feel.

Reaching the building's front door, she pushed it open with more force than necessary, letting the harsh sunlight assault her senses. The world outside felt distorted, as if seen through a warped lens.
