He stared at the email, the words blurring before his eyes. It was a punch to the gut. *Unbelievable.* He’d been promised this. He’d earned it. He took in a shaky breath.

His hands clenched into fists, the nails digging into his palms. He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the roots. His jaw was set, tight and unyielding.

He rose from his chair, unable to sit any longer. He found himself walking, pacing his small office, the frustration boiling inside him. He felt as though he would explode.

He grabbed his jacket and slammed the door behind him. The sound of it echoed, a hollow declaration of his internal turmoil.
