The email notification blinked, an unwelcome intruder on the tranquility of the morning. It was from *him*. The subject line: "Regarding..." She let out a short, sharp breath, the air whistling through her teeth. She clicked on the message, her finger hovering over the delete button. Curiosity, that insidious traitor, won out.

Her shoulders tightened as she scrolled through the words, each sentence a fresh sting. She closed her laptop with a snap, the sudden action jarring her cat, who jumped from its perch on the sofa. She picked up the remote, the channels flipping erratically as she tried to find something, *anything*, to distract her.

Finally, she smashed the remote down on the coffee table and stood up. She needed to *move*.
