Gemotions

The package arrived, its contents a blatant reminder of the past. A gift, an apology, a pathetic attempt to rewrite history. She didn't open it. She hadn't even touched it. She just stared at it, a knot forming in her throat.

She went outside, where the wind whipped around her, a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil. She kicked at a stone, sending it skittering across the pavement. She wanted to yell, to shout until her voice was raw.

Instead, she stood there, breathing deeply, the cold air stinging her lungs.
