The news hit her like a physical blow. Her shoulders slumped, and her breath hitched in her chest. She had known, deep down, that this day would come, but seeing it, reading the cold, impersonal words of the listing, was a fresh wound.

She felt a cold, hard knot form in her stomach. Her hands were ice, her fingers numb. She leaned against the kitchen counter, struggling to breathe. She ran a hand through her hair, pulling at the strands as if trying to rip away the anger that was consuming her.
