The lawyer’s office seemed to shrink around David as he read the list. "Ride a motorcycle across Route 66." His father, who had spent his life meticulously planning, now had a list for adventure. He slammed the document down on the table, the sound echoing in the sterile room.

He’d always felt like he disappointed his father. That feeling was worse now. He'd never been good enough. The list seemed to confirm it. He felt like he'd been given a final test.

He stood up so abruptly the chair scraped against the floor. “I’m done here,” he said to the lawyer, his voice sharp. He left, ignoring the man's attempts to speak, the anger boiling, threatening to explode.
