The silence in the apartment was deafening, punctuated only by the rapid thumping of her own heart. He'd been so careful, so secretive. But the document on the computer was undeniable. It was a vicious depiction, a personal attack.

“Unbelievable,” she breathed, her voice barely a whisper. She wanted to smash the monitor, to erase every word he’d written. Her hands trembled, her limbs felt heavy.

She sank into the armchair, the leather cool against her skin. The world seemed to tilt. The betrayal hit her like a punch.
