The cold wind whipped at Clara’s face as she stared at the time capsule, its metal surface glinting in the pale sunlight. She had no memory of burying it, yet her name was scrawled across the lid. He dug it up during a walk in a forest, hoping for peace.

She pried the lid open. Inside, were a series of photographs and a small, wooden carving of a bird. She recognized the carving, a gift from a childhood friend. The photographs, showed faces, smiles, relationships. Relationships that were long gone.

She threw the photographs to the ground. She kicked at the capsule with a force that sent it tumbling end over end. It was all a complete nuisance, a burden.
