The university’s alumni newsletter. Her essay. An example. Claire’s hands trembled so violently she nearly dropped her phone. The words blurred on the screen. A wave of nausea washed over her. It was as if they had stolen a part of her.

She gripped the phone so tightly the edges dug into her palm. She threw it onto the bed. It landed with a dull thud, unnoticed. She was not okay. Not one bit.

She walked towards the window, staring at the grey sky. Her mind churned. What gave them the right? It's like they used a part of her for their own benefit. She kicked the wastebasket across the room. The metallic clang echoed in the sterile apartment.
