She felt a sharp pang of something unpleasant as she watched. The office was her haven, the place where she'd spent years building a career.

She pointed to the computer screen, her finger tracing the steps. Each click of the mouse, each explanation, felt like a slow death. She avoided looking at the new hire, instead focusing on the screen, on the meaningless data.
