Gemotions

The bus rumbled down the street, stopping at the corner. Michael watched his son, Alex, get off, excitement sparkling in his eyes. He wasn't excited. Alex was going to be in Mr. Reynolds' class.

Michael knew Mr. Reynolds. He’d been his history teacher, the one who had always seemed to see through him. He remembered the feeling of being misunderstood, of being unable to live up to expectations.

He watched the bus pull away, the red tail lights disappearing down the road. The world suddenly felt distant, and a heavy sadness settled within him, like a rock in his stomach. He wished he could feel the same anticipation as his son. But it wasn't there.
