He stared at the small, handwritten note taped to the door of "The Daily Grind." “Closed for good.” Just that. The brevity of it, the finality, hit him like a physical blow. His shoulders slumped.

He felt the weight of the city pressing down on him. The wind, usually invigorating, now whipped around him, making him shiver. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture automatic, useless.

Inside, he’d always found solace. The comforting clatter of the espresso machine, the gentle murmur of conversations, the scent of freshly brewed coffee – all of it had been a balm. He'd nursed countless coffees and dreams in that cozy space. Now, just emptiness.
