The morning sun cast long shadows across the overgrown lawn where the yard sale was taking place. A light breeze rustled the leaves, a sound that usually brought comfort to Anna, but today, it just seemed to emphasize the quiet that had settled over her life. She was looking at a chipped vase when something in a box of old toys caught her attention. It was Winston, her childhood teddy bear.

His fur was faded, and one of his paws was missing, but the sight of him still managed to tug at a forgotten corner of her heart. She couldn't believe it. She reached out and picked up Winston, holding him close. The coarse texture of his fur felt strangely comforting.

“How much for the bear?” she asked the man manning the yard sale, her voice raspy. He quoted a price, and she paid without haggling.
