The weight in his chest made it hard to breathe. David stared at the open journal on his desk, the words in his own handwriting mocking him. He had been so careful to keep his inner thoughts locked away. His roommate, Ben, was whistling in the common area, preparing his dinner. The casual act only sharpened the sting.

He dragged himself over to the window, watching the campus lights flicker to life as dusk settled.
