"You alright, Dad?" Liam asked, his voice softer than usual. He watched his father, who stood motionless on the sidewalk. The house loomed behind him, a crumbling monument to a life once lived. It was a bleak scene, painted in shades of gray.

His father merely nodded, his gaze fixed on the front porch. Liam knew what his father was feeling. He'd seen that same look before, a certain weariness, a hollowness in the eyes.
