Gemotions

Clara stared out at the bustling city, the vibrant colors and frenetic energy doing nothing to penetrate the grey haze that surrounded her. Her self-cleaning cat litter box, a project she’d dreamed about for years, was useless. Somebody had gotten there first, with a nearly identical design. She was too late. She felt… depleted.

She pulled her coat tighter around her. The wind whipped her hair across her face, stinging her cheeks. The people hurrying along the streets all seemed to be heading somewhere, while she felt rooted in place, like a tree whose roots had been severed.

She found herself walking towards the park. She sat on a bench, and watched as a couple fed the pigeons. A sudden, sharp ache pierced her chest.
