The guitar lay untouched in the corner, gathering dust. The music, a constant companion for years, now seemed a distant echo. The news of what Arthur Finch had done had taken all the music out of the world.

David found himself staring out the window, watching the leaves fall from the trees. The sky was overcast, mirroring his mood. He felt heavy, weighted down by a sense of loss.

He went to the cupboard and retrieved his favorite book written by Arthur Finch. He threw it in the trash, then went back to his window. He could not bring himself to leave his apartment.
