Gemotions

The library was quiet, the scent of old paper and leather heavy in the air as Chloe carefully examined the photos. Her great-aunt was a well known woman in the town, and her life had always been a source of pride. She was an important person, and had achieved much.

However, in these pictures, her great-aunt was with a woman, and the two of them were smiling at each other. They were happy, and it was obvious. A wave of… despondency, crashed over her. She knew a feeling of profound loneliness, and the world seemed to dim.

The carefully constructed history began to unravel, and she was left feeling… adrift. The story was so clear, and the truth felt like a punch to the gut. She sat for a long moment, simply staring at the photograph, the weight of the past pressing down on her.
